Typhoid Fever
I have been unwell with Typhoid since the past 5 days. Had been on Taxim 300mg and Meftal Forte. The fever comes down from 103°F to normal after taking medicines then rises again with chills. Severe Headache. The doctor has now prescribed intravenous antibiotics or Bactrim DS Oral (800mg+160mg). Is it fine to take such a heavy medicine, I am very scared. Or should I wait and continue with my previous treatment? Do I need any other tests?

The dose of taxim is 200mg and it must be taken morning and night for 2 weeks continuously. Continue your previous treatment if your fever has come down. In case you are having fever spikes continuously you can take iv antibiotics. There is no problem. Make sure you complete 2 weeks of treatment with the same antibiotic. Currently if you have got all your routine tests done like complete blood count, urine routine and microscopy and typhoid then you don’t require additional tests.
