In simple terms, dual marker is to be done from 9-13 weeks (Ultrasonography detects the nuchal translucency- for the same gestational period) Quadruple is to be done from 14-18 weeks Both detect the chance of trisomy 21 ( Down's syndrome). Elderly females or those who had a previous pregnancy with issues should definitely do it, but certainly not by everyone.
