I've got a sharp pain in my throat, my tonsils look a little enlarged and I can see the beginning of the characteristic white spots on them. My temperature is normal (36.8) though. I really don't have the time to be unwell and have some Tyrozets from last time I had tonsillitis in February. Would it help shorten or fight off any potential developing tonsillitis if I took them now pre-emptively?

You seem to be suffering from acute pharyngo-tonsillitis which is a common type of throat infection. You may need to take antibiotics and painkillers along with antiseptic mouth gargle for few days for faster recovery
Next Steps
Consult nearby ENT specialist for confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate treatment if required. Meanwhile you can do salt water gargling
