It is called as hypothyroidism and is due to deficiency of a hormone produced by a gland known as thyroid situated in the front of one's  neck. It is treated by replacement of the hormone in the form of a tablet as is prescribed to him. It isnt serious although the treatment is lifelong. It is not affected by diet or other activities.
