Taking insulin during prenatal phase
I stay in Thailand for last 3 years. I want to try for a baby but am suffering from type 2 diabetes and hypothyroidism for more than a year. My latest (taken today) Glucose (fasting) reading is 127 and thyroid THS is 3 (both of them getting lower). The previous endocrinologists in Thailand had given me metformin and later empagliflozin to lower my sugar level so that I can try for pregnancy. However my new endocrinologist, whom I consulted for the first time today, prescribed insulin injections while trying for a baby and said that empagliflozin is risky in prenatal stage. I was never told by my previous doctors to take insuline while trying for pregnancy as my diabetes is considered borderline. That is why I am seeking an independent opinion about whether I should take insulin. I have been trying to reduce my weight and I am 40 now, thus I am worried about complications during pregnancy. I am also worried about having to be on insulin indefinitely once I start it. Kindly guid me.

As your age is 40, it is too late to plan for baby, if you conceive it will be elderly high risk primi with DM. You need to be started on insulin with regularly monitoring all your parameters and hypothyroid.
