Sugar spike
Hi..I am 43 years old female.. Got my hb1ac checked 6 months back,it was 5.6 Still to avoid getting diabetes in the future, I was told to avoid eating stuff that causes sudden sugar spikes I eat 10-11 soaked raisins first thing in the morning ..can this lead to sudden spikes and should this be avoided? Also drinking jaggery water first thing in the morning  or eating roti or rice (carbohydrates) for lunch and dinner in the beginning without having salads or soup Can you advise..Both my parents are diabetics What else should I be very careful about? What can I do to Thanks

You can continue to have raisins . You can continue to have jaggery water. Apart from these to avoid diabetes… steps are as follows 1) Brisk walk @6km/h for 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days in a week 2) Prefer to consume ragi, jowar , bajra , green leafy vegetables , sprouts, guava, pomegranate, papaya, apple, pineapple 3) Meditation or yoga to get freed from stress a work

HBA1C 5.6 is non diabetic state. But since your parents are diabetic and you are now at middle age. Do exercise and diet control. Do not get worried of getting diabetes. Repeat HBA1C after 6 months to check on diabetes levels. Off hand do blood sugar fasting and 2 hrs after lunch or heavy diet to check on sugar levels . Fasting sugar less than 110 and PP less than 140 is to be targeted
