Sudden Left-Sided Headaches
Dear Doctor, I have been experiencing sudden headaches on the left side of my head, mainly around the forehead extending to the side of my head. The pain is not present throughout the day but occurs suddenly anytime and then subsides on its own. I work permanent night shifts and spend several hours each day using my phone and laptop. I do not wear glasses. Could these headaches be related to eye strain, excessive screen time, my night-shift schedule, migraine, or any other underlying condition? Would you recommend an eye examination or any investigations such as blood tests or brain imaging to determine the cause?

This sounds like tension-type headache or early migraine — both very common with night shifts and heavy screen use. Night shifts disrupt your sleep cycle and screen glare causes eye strain, both of which trigger exactly this kind of one-sided episodic headache. No brain imaging is needed at this stage.
Next Steps
Get an eye check done — you may need glasses for screen use. Take regular screen breaks (20-20-20 rule: every 20 mins look 20 feet away for 20 seconds). Try to keep a fixed sleep schedule even on night shifts. If headaches become very frequent or severe, consult me on Practo for further evaluation.
