I've had what I believe is a cyst located about halfway down my back, but centered pretty much on my spinal cord. I've had it for 2+ years with no discomfort or anything, but I woke up this morning with it seeming inflamed and with extra pressure. I have a scheduled appointment with a dermatologist, but it's not for a few weeks. Given that this is the first time I've ever experienced discomfort of any sort and its location near my spinal cord, should I get an apt sooner with someone else?

If its of recent origin it could be a sebaceous /epidermoid cyst. If you have diabetes or obesity it possible that it has becomes inflamed or infected. You can send a photograph of the affected area through online consult so I could help you with the diagnosis and ascertain whether is there is a need to avail emergency services.. Hope this is helpful.
