Hello
Can you please help me with a query if possible. My father in law is taking a medicine named Silofast D for the last 6 months. He was asking me a question today that since the medicine has reduced the PSA level from 1.9 to normal range now if he continues to take the medicine can it reduce the PSA level further i.e below normal? Since the doctor he is consulting has asked him to continue the medicine for 6 more months. He is worried this will cause further reduction of the medicine below normal range. I am unable to find a logical explanation to answer him kindly help.

Dutasteride component of the medicine silofast D will reduce the serum PSA when taken over 6 months. Don't be concerned with it , even if it drops below the range. For the purpose of correction in people getting dutasteride over 6 months we multiply the values of serum PSA with a corrective factor( which is duration dependant) to get the original value.
Next Steps
don't get concerned with the values if it's below the permissible range and consult a urologist for proper evaluation and management.
