Most probable cause at this age is osteoarthritis... It's a degenerative bone disease...There’s no cure for osteoarthritis as yet, but there are a number of treatments that can help ease symptoms and reduce the chances arthritis becoming worse...options are analgesics, NSAIDs,intraosseous steroid injection and hyaluronic acid injections,Physiotherapy like strengthening exercises etc ... Treatment depends upon the stage...I would suggest you to consult nearest orthopedic surgeon they will do the needful.

Hi.. This pain may be due to osteoarthritis. As seems with your history. If osteoarthritis is more than grade 3. He needs a knee replacement. The main problem a person feels after knee replacement is knee replacement failure. This occurs due to lack of physiotherapy after the operation. Keep in mind that in case u get ur father knee replaced kindly get physiotherapy done for at least one month to ket knee muscles toned.. U can revert back again to discuss in detail. I will guide u.

Hello there. I can understand your concern. Looks like your father is suffering from a disorder called osteoarthritis in which there is a wear and tear of the cartilage present in the joint. Therefore movements are painful. If other line of treatment like the ones mentioned by my colleague has not worked then I'm afraid surgery is the last option. After knee replacement, his life will be pain free but he will need to maintain a particular life style. He won't be able to sit in Indian style commodes, he won't be able to fit on the floor with folded legs. Kindly consult a orthopedician in person for further details. Best regards. Dr. Anil Kumar Jain.
