If you don't have problem such as morning sickness and nausea the rocking motion of the train can cause you to vomit. Also if you have any associated problems such as hypertension, diabetes and other problems you will be at high risk to travel during that time period. It is comparatively safe to travel during your second trimester although you can travel during the first trimester the associated problems will increase the risk during travel. Ask your treating OBGYN before travel. The following methods may help in making your travel safer: - If you are travelling alone pack only as much as you can carry or choose a suitcase with wheels (trolley) which doesn't have to be lifted. - Reach the station well in advance of the departure time and platform. - If you need to cross a foot-over bridge to get to the platform, you could hire a porter to carry your luggage which will reduce the load over your back. - Try not to get down at stations unless you are sure there is going to be a long halt. - Do not try to board a running train. - It is advisable to have a travelling companion to help you get about especially if there is an emergency. - You may find it useful to carry some medication for common bugs such as a cold or stomach infection(check with your OBGYN if the tabs are safe during pregnancy) - Carry a copy of your medical information and also keep your doctor's contact number handy. - Find a seat facing the direction of travel if that makes you feel more comfortable and on the lower berth - Trains make it easier to walk around than other modes of transport so try to get up every hour and stretch your legs. - Wear comfortable and sturdy footwear like sneakers or flats which make it easier to maintain your balance in a moving train.
