Animals that are barely known to have rabies are: hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, rats and mice. So, don’t spread it to humans. Exposure to domestic rodents, hare and rabbits, do not require post exposure prophylaxis (rabies postbite injections ). People are generally exposed to rabies by bats, dogs, cats or livestock.
Next Steps
Don’t worry about keeping them as pets, they’ll keep the children company and inculcate a sense of responsibility as they’ll be taking care of them .
Health Tips
However, even if they scratch the children while playing wash the area for large amounts of soap and water and apply antiseptic to avoid other infections that can fester on them.
