My daughter is 2.5 years old. She mostly eats egg white and milk or curd. Eggs white is of 3 - 4 eggs per day and thrice or four times milk. Makhana she also eats once or twice in small amounts. Occasional fruits depending on her mood. She is not eating roti or any kind of grain. I am worried weather only dairy based diet effect her health. We give pediasure twice a day, iron medicine and multivitamin medicine once a day. What should we do so that she starts eating roti and sabzi or anything else that we can do.

Hello
Your child’s current diet is heavily dairy- and protein-based, which can meet some nutritional needs, but over time may cause deficiencies in fiber, complex carbohydrates, and micronutrients found in grains and vegetables. It’s important to introduce a more balanced diet gradually.
Try the following:
Role modeling: Let her see other family members eating roti and sabzi at the table with enjoyment.
Make food fun: Use creative shapes, colors, and plating. Add small pieces of roti in soups or make roti pizzas.
Gradual introduction: Mix mashed veggies into egg or curd dishes to slowly introduce the taste.
Avoid pressure: Avoid force-feeding or showing frustration. Keep mealtimes relaxed and positive.
Involve her: Let her help with simple tasks during food prep—this increases interest in eating.
Nutritional supplements like Pediasure can help short term, but building healthy eating habits is the long-term goal.
Next Steps
Keep a food diary for 5–7 days and observe any preferences or triggers.
Start with half roti or small pieces in familiar dishes.
If feeding challenges persist for >4–6 weeks, consider evaluation by a pediatric nutritionist or feeding therapist.
Health Tips
Avoid excessive milk intake as it can reduce appetite for solid foods and may lead to iron deficiency.
Egg whites are high in protein but should be balanced with other food groups.
Always rule out any oral motor, sensory, or behavioral feeding issues if refusal persists.
