Rectal Bleeding and Anal Discharge
For the past 1–2 days, I have been experiencing loose motions along with stomach cramps. Whenever I go to pass stool, I notice some blood, including small blood clots and a few drops of fresh blood. I am also having pain around the anal opening, and there seems to be some liquid discharge from that area. Could you please advise what might be causing these symptoms and whether I need any urgent evaluation or tests?

Consult with a doctor
Online now
A) The combination of acute diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fresh rectal bleeding, blood clots, anal pain, and discharge is not typical of simple piles and requires prompt medical evaluation. B) Possible causes include infectious colitis, an acute anal fissure, inflammatory bowel disease, or less commonly a perianal abscess or fistula. C) A physical examination is essential to identify the source of bleeding and discharge.
Next Steps
1. Arrange a consultation at the earliest with a surgeon or physician. 2. You may require a perianal examination, CBC, stool examination (including stool culture if indicated), and further investigations based on clinical findings.
Health Tips
1. Early evaluation is important to establish the diagnosis and initiate appropriate treatment. Maintain adequate hydration until reviewed. 2. Do not ignore rectal bleeding with blood clots. 3. Avoid self-medicating with anti-diarrheal drugs until the cause is identified.
