Rabies shots validity
Hi Sir/Ma'am
I am on an anti rabies vaccine schedule of 5 doses. Though I had an exposure 13 years back, but after consulting my family doctor, I decided and went for it.
Now suppose that there was no exposure, so these 5 vaccines, are they better in terms of effectiveness as compared to 3 vaccine Pre-Exposure? And till how long can it guarantee protection?
Plus, as WHO suggests 2 vaccines for immunised individuals if ever exposure happens post 3 months, will I always require to have it? Or, will it depend on the severity?
One more thing, I am NOT the same person who repeatedly asks questions related to rabies here, though I do feel thoughts like that coming, like unknown exposures.

you have read the WHO guidelines as you mention.
yes please its correct that you will need 2 doses if theres exposure again and you have grade 2 or 3 exposure. also read about 10 days watching the dog or cat and subsequent action to be taken.
as you have smart phone you can read full WHO guidelines.
Next Steps
to make it clear and not confusing ,as theres no treatment of Rabies , WHO recommends 2 doses of vaccine even if pre exposure 3 dose prophylaxis was taken or 5 dose PEP was taken in the past .Period.
with recommendation to observe dog or cat for 10 days. see WHO chart in their guidelines.
