Usually rabies immunoglobulin administered along with rabies vaccine side by side depending on the severity of bite If the bite happens to involve mucosal layer i.e deeper to skin it is advisable to take immunoglobulin But immunoglobulin is given once at time of bite but vaccine has to be taken 4 to 5 doses depending on the vaccine available

**Specialist Doctor's Response:**  **Re: Safety of Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) with Vaccine**  Dear Patient,  Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) **is safe to administer alongside the rabies vaccine** and is often *critical* for high-risk exposures. Here’s what you need to know:  --- ### **Key Points About RIG + Vaccine:**  1. **Purpose of RIG**:     - Provides **immediate antibodies** to neutralize the virus at the wound site.     - Used for **Category III exposures** (bites near the brain/face, deep wounds, or immunocompromised patients).  2. **Safety Profile**:     - **No major interactions** with the rabies vaccine.     - Mild side effects (e.g., pain/swelling at injection site) may occur.  3. **Administration**:     - Given **once**, ideally on Day 0 (with the first vaccine dose).     - Injected **around the wound** (if visible) + remaining dose intramuscularly.  --- ### **When Is RIG Mandatory?**  ✔ **High-risk bites** (Face, neck, hands, or genital area).  ✔ **Unvaccinated animals** with suspected rabies.  ### **Common Concerns Addressed:**  - **"Will RIG delay vaccine efficacy?"** → No, they work synergistically.  - **"Can I skip RIG?"** → Not advised for high-risk cases (WHO guidelines).  --- ### **Consultation Recommended:**  To assess your exposure risk and tailor the regimen, **contact me for a detailed evaluation**.  📱 **WhatsApp**: **Eight Zero Zero Nine Eight Two One Three Three Two**
