Pins and Needles in feet post Laminectom
To:Specialists Am suffering from pins n needles post laminectomy surgery in left calf and entire feet 24*7*365 since 2010. Surgery was not successful as I developed infection of spine. Infection was detected and treated post 6 months of surgery, perhaps leading to this problem of nerve damage. Lyrica and Gabapentin do not work. Have learnt to live with this pain , but constantly in pursuit of some specialist who has treated same in order to improve my quality of life. Magnesium glycinate supplements at night help with sleep. Request if anyone can guide in the matter. Regards, Hemant

I am to sorry to hear about your problems. There are unfortunately limited treatment options for a post-laminectomy complication, especially one that occurred more than a decade ago. Most medications for neuropathic pain (pregabalin/TCAs) work through similar mechanisms, so if they have not worked for you in the past, I doubt that they will be effective at present. If you have learnt to live with the pain, then I would advise you to avoid trying medications as much as possible (unnecessary risk of drug side effects). If you feel that your quality of life is still significantly impaired, spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a relatively newer treatment modality but with limited evidence and experience, so I would consider it only as a last resort.
