Hello Doctors.. This could be common question.
Myself and my husband are from different communities can we have two different languages as our mother tongue nNow for our son who is 1 year old can we introduce both the languages at a time? Where as my husband want only one language to be spoken until he start speaking thinking that multiple languages might effect their speech. Also if we have to introduce, is it good idea to repeat one sentence In two languages at a time ?

First of all congratulations on being parents for a one year old child and being succesfully raising him till now. At the beginning it is better to introduce one language at a time as has been rightly pointed out by your husband (Also the conversations he listens must be the same language preferably). And hence the idea being that if the child can start communicating in one of these languages with simple cues or words to begin with or three word sentences in the coming months ahead, then the next language can be gradually understood without any efforts after listening to yours or your husband's interactions.... Usually it is advisable to start with the one language Mother is comfortable with in order to gain more confidence from the child... Remember to have eye to eye contact when anything new things or new words or new experiences are explained, this will ensure greater confidence in child when learning to communicate in sentences later... Remember to Repeat the NEW words SLOWLY and as many times as possible by having Eye to Eye contact... They, like any other children, are great imitators and hence they need to SEE our lip movements properly, the way we pronounce those words while we speak... Kindly DO not train them when they aren't seeing you eye to eye... That also tends to have more confidence in you when they feel that you have been giving more importance to them by taking your time out and speaking to them and expecting them to learn new things ... This increases, not only encourages the confidence in the child but also helps attain a more deeper attachment and they are more likely to listen to your advise than going against either now or later. This instils a lot of belief and loyalty in any child for that matter... Also try to refrain from sending them to play schools early on, as they listen to many different languages and may get confused if exposed more earlier than necessary and hence at least waiting till 2 years 6 months or 3 years will be best for the child. Of course being at home with grand parents will suffice the same too, with one trained caretaker during day time being kept. With grandparents supervising the same caretaker's actions... Especially if both parents are working... Also make sure that he is on good balanced diet with only about 250 to 300 ml of milk and having almost everything you guys can have at the breakfast or lunch, or dinner, albeit with lesser spices or more mashed... As nutrition matters a lot in learning.
Next Steps
If after 2 years of age, the child doesn't do good with communicating using atleast 3 word simple sentences like " I want food" (in the language of your training) etc then to see if there is an understanding but a delay in responding with appropriate words. if so then again the training by mothers will be effective in this regard for at least 1 to 2 months as mentioned above. if slurring or no comprehension of the same or not listening right way then to see a Pediatrician first and then if required developmental pediatrician (which is very rarely required)...
