Middle finger locks in place, mild pain
My mother's right middle finger locks in 90 degree angle when working and she has to straighten it with left hand. There is mild pain when doing so. Happens 3-4 times a day for past 6 months. She also cannot squeeze things without it happening, or with mild pain. What could it be?

This might be due to a condition called Trigger Finger. This happens due to localized swelling in the tendon towards the base of finger..
Next Steps
She can start with Ice fomentation,  gentle massage towards base of finger, take analgesic in case of pain, use a splint for support,  start Physiotherapy..
Health Tips
She may require local steroid injection or surgical release if not relieved by medicines..
