Talk to experienced psychiatrist online and get your health questions answered in just 5 minutes.
Hi, did you start taking sedatives as a means of coping with your cousin's death? Was it started on prescription of a Doctor or was it self medication?
Please understand that sedatives are potentially addictive and can be dangerous if taken without supervision of a doctor and that too for long time.
Also, consuming alcohol with sedatives is not recommended as there is interaction with the medication .
Insomnia may be a symptom of underlying Depression. Please consult a Psychiatrist if you continue to have sleeplessness or feel that you are still grieving the loss of your cousin , or it has affected you a lot.

I repeat , please do not self medicate . You can get better with the correct prescribed medication by a Psychiatrist and with counseling.
