My corneal thickness is 576 and 582 respectively. I came across an article that Femto second laser has the risk of gas bubble breakthrough complication, but I couldn't understand it properly. Doctors said that my cornea is steep with mean K value of 48 and 46.2 respectively but I have no progression / signs of keratoconus. They given me date of femto lasik wavefront guided surgery and said I will achieve BCVA of 6/9 post surgery with remaining corneal thickness of 390 and 350 in OD and OS respectively. I want to ask that what are the chances of irregular flap creation ( gas bubble breakthrough, buttonhole, wrinkles etc) in my case? I am having my surgery at AIIMS, Delhi and the doctor who is operating upon my eye is Mr. Jeewan Singh Titiyal ( Prof, RP eye center , AIIMS). He is padam shri award winner. Please help me understand what are these complications with flaps that I mentioned and how much chances of these complications in my case ( %age). Do these happen because of thin cornea?

LASIK is refractive surgery to correct myopia ,hypermetropia & astigmatism, refractive surgery also include intraocular ocular lens procedure. For LASIK your eyes must be healthy, if you have persistent dry eyes, LASIK surgery may aggravate this condition resulting in burning sensation & blurring of vision after LASIK. For LASIK cornea must have sufficient thickness because in reshaping of cornea, you loose the thickness of cornea & if your cornea is too thin, you are not fit case for LASIK. --1Dof myopic correction consumes 35 micron of corneal thicknes.Average thickness of cornea in Indian is 450 micron to 500 micron& after LASIK there should be around 300 micron thickness of cornea for safety of eye in future. Pupils are usually large in myopic people who undergo LASIK operation resulting in side effects such as halos, glares especially in those who drive in night. LASIK for the treatment of high retractive errors are less predictable, because very high amount of myopia could require removal of too much corneal tissue putting at increased risk of Vision complications. LASIK should not be undertaken before 21yrs in male & 19 yrs in female because myopic power increases by that age. You must have stable power before LASIK. There is no upper age limit but one should keep in mind that once you are 40yrs old,you may still need reading glass due to presbyopia changing every two years till you develop cataract in old age. Contraindications for LASIK -degenerative disease, Sjogren syndrome, type one diabetes etc.People who are taking immunosuppressive drugs, must think ten times before undergoing for LASIK surgery. One must go LASIK screening before taking decision for LASIK. One undergoes for LASIK should be fully aware of potential LASIK complications & should not hide anything from operating surgeon about health.
