Large perimembranous VSD
My son is 46 days old. He has a large perimembranous vsd of size 6mm. Will it close by itself. Do vsd associated with down syndrome? During my pregnancy in double marker test, it is given that risk of down syndrome is low and negative. Any chance of down syndrome in this case?

Down syndrome is associated with VSD but all VSD do not have Down syndrome. If your pregnancy ultrasound doesn’t show DS then do not worry. He is just 46 days now but for him 6mm is a moderately large VSD. There is chances that VSD can close automatically but those are predominantly muscular VSD. PM VSD may close but usually doesn’t. If. Your child has repeated chest infections then he will need surgical closure VSD surgery is very safe now a day so do not be afraid of surgery rather get early and best treatment.
