Jaundice in New born
My baby is 12 days old and is weighing 2.4 kg..and has total bilirubin levels of 14.7mg/dL..should we keep take him for phototherapy immediately or sun light is sufficient with increase in number of feeds? What level is dangerous for new borns? Please help..

At 12 days these billirubin level wont harm baby but monitoring requires whether it decreasing or increasing... Other risk factors like dehyadartion or blood group compatibility or term or preterm baby or sepsis...these we uave to ruled out...

Bil of 14.7 at day 12 in other wise normal baby and eeding well nothing is needed . Sun light will not be of much help just feed well Natural course of jaundice in  newborn is that it peaks around 7-8 days and later decrease gradually by next 1-2 weeks .

What was the birth weight? Was the baby born term or preterm?

If baby was born term and gaining weight, then 14.7 S. Bili is normal. increase the feeds 2 hrly and see to it baby passes more than 6 times urine in a day.
