Is it ok to take multiple CT scans? Help
I have lower jaw pain under ear and neck for 8 months now. Went to different dentist, physician, ENT, neurologist, oral surgeon, tmj specialist. Nothing helps and no diagnosis yet. I have mild swelling in the lower jaw under ear a d neck. I have small lump like spots in the side of the neck and under the ear. It hurts to touch. I had ultrasound and no abnormalities found. I had taken many dental x-rays,6 panoramic x-rays and 3 dental CBCT scan so far since June. 2 CbcT scan for tooth and one CBCT scan for TMJ. So taken 3 in the last 7 months. Now my physician ordered me CT of neck soft tissue with contrast. I don't know that it's same as cbct of tmj or shows some more things. Is it ok to take this ct scan now? Is it harmful to have multiple CT and x-rays within short span of time? I also have an mri imaging order for brain with contrast from the neuro to see if any nerve issues. But neuro didn't include the MRI neck. So,my GP ordering CT for neck to check. CT and mri show same?

CT does expose u to power radiations but a couple of them won't make a significant harm. Definitely a diagnosis in your case is more important. Basically it's a risk benefit ratio. Mri is much safer as its just magnetic field.
