Hello Dr.
Greetings. My father has a low vision and is suggested cataract surgery. Can you please let me know if it is necessary to perform OCT before cataract surgery for diabetic patients and approximately how much it costs?

If he has very low vision and dense cataract then Oct will hardly show anything. And if the lense is clearer and there is no improvement on refraction then offcourse Oct will be helpful to establish the diagnosis and prognosis.

Hi, OCT is a valuable tool in assessing the macula in diabetics. Pre op scan will definitely help the doctor to assess post-op visual recovery and also to rule out certain conditions like macular edema wherein treatment is very essential before cataract surgery. Cost would be approximately 2000 INR
