Opening of the maxillary sinus also known as maxillary ostuim is situated in its medial wall. It's position does not really matter because drainage occurs by a process known as ciliary motility which pushes the secretions against the gravity towards the ostuim. Paranasal sinuses reduce the weight of the skull so they add resonance to voice. Block in the sinuses with filled up mucous can reduce that resonance of voice
