Hi there....choosing between open or laparoscopic surgery is completely upto you. Laparoscopic surgerys have a advantage of having minimal incision, less number of postoperative days stay in the hospital, has a faster recovery time as the incision is minimal. You can go back to work faster after laproscopic surgery than compared to open surgery. Hence laparoscopic surgeries are also costlier. However sometimes when size of hernia is big or not accessible by laparoscope, then open surgery will have to be done. Kindly consult your general surgeon, they will be able to guide you better.
