"congenital" term is used bcz the hernia has occured because of patency of an opening which was supposed to be closed as the baby develops. so the congenital inguinal can even occur in children which means upto 5years or sometimes beyond, there is no fixed timing. if the patency still exist even after development into childhood congenital inguinal hernia can occur. 2. the opening in inguinal region is natural for aj new born baby, especially a male baby, upto 80% of the male baby hv a patent pathways in tat region which is the site for herniation, so when it is normal for the opening to exist, how can one label it abnormal 3 so now coming to the most important question of all, patency exist in most baby, now y hernia has occured in few is to answered which will clear lots of ur queries: the list is exhaustive few are: cryptorchidism, shunt surgery, ascites, connective tissue disorder, increased intraabdominal pressure some extra points for better understanding see there is a normal pathway for the testes to descend in male baby, tat has to close. but it takes time (months to years). so now in this time if sjome problem occur in abdomen so as to make its contents overcrowded it will try to come out through these pathways that exist which has to original close so as to prevent herniation
