Have severe trouble sleeping, lately.
Been nocturnal ever since but, it had gotten better with age and work schedule. Been off work since a few months. And lately, can't sleep at all early at night no matter how much I try. What's the best thing to change the pattern immediately?

Hello miss. Good morning. I read ur concern and understood  ur problem , one thing I wud like to tell, sleep is very important and crucial process of daily life. Sleep help to heal ur body from all type of damage whether mentally or physically. So now, why sleep disturbance occurs, here I will discuss with you some basic reasons for sleep disturbance. These are : 1. Working night shift changes ur sleep cycle. 2.Anxiety causes sleep problems. 3.Start of Depression can be seen as sleep    impairment. 4. EXCESSIVE use of alcohol , nicotine , caffeine     or Tea causes sleep disturbance. 5.Any hormonal imbalance causes sleep changes 6.Any medical illness like lung problems alters     sleep pattern. 7.Some Medicines causes sleep problems 8.idiopathic means without any reason sleep     problems exist. 9.many more that cannot be discussed here . I believe u understood the reason behind it, but it is not possible to give you any drugs without detailed evaluation of ur sleep disorder.
Next Steps
I advice to consult any Psychiatrist or Neuropsychiatrist of ur choice & discuss the ur reasons of sleep problems. plan an efficient treatment that suits ur routine and body. As a Psychiatrist it's my duty to inform you about "Sleep Hygeine" and pls don't follow google for ur body and mind problems ,it will misguide you & confuse you further. I will tell u these step of sleep hygeine just follow it. 1. Early morning excercise is must. 2. Afternoon sleep must be avoided   3. Dinner should be very light 4. Eat dinner before 2 hrs of ur sleep. 5. Avoid heavy consumption of any Fluids     ( Beverages ,tea , coffee, even water also). 6.No alcohol , smoke is good before sleep. 7.Your bed must be used solely for sleeping ,no      other activities of watching Tv, laptop ,phone    or eating or reading is permitted. 8. Ur room must be dark, calm and cold. 9. Just keep ur feet into bucket of warm water           for 10 mins it will relax ur inner tension         before sleep. 10. I possibly ,try out other bed and room to        sleep. 11. fix ur Sleep and wake time. Apart from sleep hygeine there are other form of therapies but all cannot be discussed here ,they are big. If after following these basic steps no changes happen or you unable to follow these steps the problem exist , then we will move to next step of other form of therapies for sleep or MEDICINES .
Health Tips
7 to 8 hrs of sleep is enough not more or not less than it. Don't start any form of treatment without supervision of a doctor. Anyhow it ur body don't  experiment anything over it.

Hi. Do u have any other complaints or stress? If it is just sleep disturbance, then, like you yourself pointed out, it can get better with a fixed schedule. Continue waking up, getting ready and sleeping on the same time as earlier. Include some physical activity in daily routine. Avoid sleeping in day time. Taking warm water bath and milk before sleep helps getting better sleep. Avoid tea coffee etc in late evenings. All the best!
Next Steps
Consult a Psychiatrist if following basic sleep hygiene doesn't help.
Health Tips
Limit your screen time. Avoid using devices at least 1hr before sleeping.
