The earlobe is the least sensitive part of the ear. It just needs to be pierced with an atraumatic sharp wide bore needle for the whole procedure to be relatively painless! Drop in to my clinic with the gold earring or ear stud and I will do the needful. DO NOT GO FOR GUNSHOTS! The pain is intense about 15minutes after the procedure as it is not unlike a bullet wound... The exit wound(behind the lobe) is horrible! The pain is due to the tissue crush injury of the blunt gunshot projectile.
