If it a recurring problem then I suggest you to get your wisdom teeth extracted. Your dentist will take an X Ray and let you know if extraction is required or just a bit of gums need to be cut. In my opinion if the problem is recurring frequently it would be better to get it extracted.

Get an X Ray done

The flap over the wisdom teeth is an area where maintaining proper oral hygiene by tooth brushing or mouthwash is very very difficult, if not impossible. So the infection and inflammation in that area will be recurrent. Medications like antibiotics or irrigation with antiseptic solutions or using mouthwashes or sugar free chewing gums are not going to clean that area on a permanent basis and all of these are considered as temporary solutions which might or might not work all the time. Only permanent solution to such problems is extraction of the offending tooth. An x-ray called as OPG will be required to evaluate the condition of the root before planning for the extraction. Drinking good amount of water is a healthy habit otherwise but is not going to help in this problem in anyway. And the most important thing to understand is that recurrent infections in this area will cause damage to the underlying bone as well as the adjacent teeth which might require unnecessary treatments in the future if this treatment is delayed for a long time. Regards.
