Fetal reduction
My wife is pregnant with triplets at 11 weeks following IUI and the doctor has suggested to undergo a fetal reduction procedure this week. This is the ensure health of the other 2 fetuses. We need advice on whether the procedure is safe and can cause issues with the remaining fetuses. She is on progesterone V inserts and HcG injections.

Triplets and higher order multiple pregnancies are always at risk of very early preterm labour around 26-30 weeks and also for mid trimester abortions around 18-26 weeks in which case u will loose all three . If they are born very preterm the prognosis is poor. They will have very low birth weight and may need ventilatory support as well. The nicu stay may go on for nearly a month which will also be very expensive. The percentage of babies salvaged at this stage is also very low. So fetal reduction is a good option. Done in good hands the complications are minimal. There may be 0.5 to 1% chance of abortion at this stage. But it is always a better option rather than continuing.
