Duonase nasal spray effect
My last possible exposure was 7years ago. I have no symptoms of Hiv. But after 7years I have done a 4th generation CMIA antigen and antibody test which is non reactive. But while I did the test I was using corticosteroid nasal spray i.e duonase nasal spray 2sprays each nostrils twice daily to treat allergic rhinitis for a continuous period of 5months. I have read in the Internet that using steroids can cause immunosuppression and reduce antibodies so that it cannot be detected by HIV antibody test and cause a false negative. Now the question is can this duonase nasal spray affect hiv testing and cause a false negative when the 4th Generation CMIA antigen and antibody test was done 6years after possible exposure? The spray was used for continously 5months.Can this prolonged usage have systemic absorption and cause immunosuppression resulting in false hiv negative test? Do I need to test again?

Hi...duonase had fluticasone...which is a topical steroid with very less systemic absorption there are studies where prolonged usage of for greater than 1year showed no major side-effects...so..it is highly unlikely to affect the results of your test....
