Dry cough attack
My mom, about 68 years, occasionally, gets a dry cough attack. The cough attack is a series of repeated coughs, lasting a minute or so, sometimes it leaves her breathless. There is no trigger. It occurs many times during the day and night. Though it follows a cold, it persists long after the cold is gone. She describes it as an itching sensation in the throat, on the left side, below the Adams apple. She is healthy and takes only Asomex 2.5 once a day. ENT doctors are clueless. Any ideas ,

She seems to be suffering from post viral cough which is common type of dry cough syndrome after an attack of viral upper respiratory tract infection. It can sometimes last for 8 weeks. She may need to take dry cough syrups, strepsils like lozenges and steam inhalation for faster recovery
Next Steps
Consult nearby pulmonologist for confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate treatment if required
