Dissociative disorder, depresion, seizer
My wife is suffering with dissociative diorder as per nimhans. They have suggested to take escitalopram. But due to severe side effects like increase in heart beat, uneasyness, insomia I have sropped using this. Later I have been advised to use amitryptyline 10 mg by my family doctor . This gave me good result with almost nil side effects. For second opinion I approached another psychriatist. He suggested me to take peroxitine instead of amytrytiline. Now using peroxitine 10 mg since 6 days. Again getting side effects like rapid heart beta, weak ness, insomia, loss of appetite. Pls suggest

Dear Sir Thank you for your query. Please consult your psychiatrist regarding these side effect.if she was doing well on amitryptiline and did not have side effects please discuss the option of continuing with the same with your psychiatrist. Along with medications, she will also benefit from psychological therapy. Please do not stop or alter the medication without consultation. Regards Dr Ankita Mishra

Hello, If you were stable on amitriptyline what was the need to change? Every medication can have side effects and they are manageable. These medication are increased gradually to avoid side effects. Discuss with your psychiatrist regarding the same. Do not change or stop medication without consulting your psychiatrist.

In fewer cases, one can have a side effect of psychiatric medication but there is nothing to panic about. The same doctor who prescribed you peroxitine go back to him and tell him about the side effects that your wife is getting. He will with make modifications in the existing one or give another medicine to counter control the symptoms.
Next Steps
Consult your Psychiatrist.
Health Tips

Well medication especially psychotherapeutic medications will take time to adjust to the system. The medications prescribed will work only if you give it time. They take round about 2 months to become okay and the symptoms or the side effects as you call it to fade away. Please allow that to happen. Do contact me for further assistance

I would like to suggest your wife, along with the medicines, have some counseling sessions /therapies. Consult a psychologist in your city personally.
