Depression
I have been prescribed sertraline 50mg by my GP in London to treat my depression. However, many doctors back in India, when approached informally, advised me against its use, mainly due to its side effects and non availability of mental health resources in India - their major concern being withdrawal symptoms. How likely are you to recommend it?

Hi practo user, The decision about continuing  sertraline would depend on your present menatl and emotional health, total duration of your  depression and how long you have been taking  sertraline. Sertraline is a relatively safe drug and if stopped gradually with proper supervision after completion of course does not lead to significant withdrawal symptoms.  Suddenly stopping any psychiatric medication is not advisable especially if the course of your treatment has not been completed. If you have not faced any significant  side effects till now kindly continue it as per your doctor's plan in London, or seek a consultation for complete evaluation and decision about further course of action.
