School refusal in children and adolescents are not uncommon and can happen because of various underlying reasons. Your nephew needs a comprehensive assessment to understand the cause. It can be due to anxiety or depression or behavioural problems related to some dysfunctions or manifestation of some fear, stress or even interpersonal issues with someone etc. I am not sure if medicine is the solution unless there is clear underlying mental health condition. Since he is an adolescent, he will benefit from psychological treatment like cognitive behavior therapy and counselling to enhance his insight into nature of problems and the impact. It has to be dealt with carefully with desensitisation techniques and empowerment without getting judgemental about his behavior. Team approach is advisable between parents, school teacher and therapist to ensure consistency and empathetic collaborative working with your nephew rather than being prescriptive about his behavior. Please consult a psychologist immediately. Regards
