Constipation due to lithium tablets
Hi My sister is prescribed lithium tablets as part of her treatment for schizophrenia buy the medicine is creating constipation problem fof her. She has difficulty in passing stools and goes without freshing upto 2 days which means she either does not eat or she vomits whatever she eats. Lactulose syrup too is not helping. What should we do? Psychiatrist and allopathic general doctor seldom are together to prescribe best possible combo for her

Unfortunately combined consultations are far and few in all specialities in India. If lactulose is not working you can try dulcolax suppository / movicol sachkets. Also do make the appropriate dietary changes with high fibre diet.
