Breathlessness Headaches
Hello Sir/Madam, I was an alcoholic and substance abuser earlier right from early my twenties until three years back when I controlled and got out of it. Now I have started occasionally consuming alcohol in small quantities. While drinking I am fine but once I stop I find it extremely difficult to breathe. I feel very suffocated and then it leads to a bad headache within an hour. The headache gets cured only after a nap then. This happens even if I stop after cosuming one can of beer. I also feel very anxious at times with and without alcohol. Please guide.

Hi The headache, difficult in breathing, all these symptoms are very common during the Alcohol withdrawal phase. Anxiety is also a common symptom after you quit alcohol in the initial stages. Please have a strong will power and slowly the symptoms can improve. Please see a Psychiatrist for helping in Alcohol De-addiction. In case of further doubts, please feel free to write back to me. Regards Dr Prashik Meshram
