My mother a 47 year old housemaker was recently dignosed with breast cancer and removed breast . Dr have preformed surgery and we are done with one session of chemotherapy with 5 more to go now we are asked to Use injection trastuzumab to be used with last three sesions ... doctors have suggested us to get this injection 17 times in the coming year ... we need suggestions on use of these and a little info about the same and a little info about the cost of these injections

As rightly said by Dr. Aravind, if the HER2NEU status is positive only then the herceptin injection is effective. The HER2NEU is a receptor study done on the specimen removed during surgery. Also the other important aspect is the affordability as if HER2NEU is positive then you have to take the injection for one year. The good news is that now biosimilars (generic) are available at a lesser cost with almost equal efficacy

If her2nu status of your mother is positive then it's the way to go. It cost 11 lac for 1 yr herceptin don't go for it if you can't afford it for 1 yr full . As less than 1 yr treatment is not found useful.
