She felt a light pain in her chest (middle left to be exact) and felt shortness fo breath. After an ecg... We found out that her ecg is perfectly normal but her heart rate was quite low i.e., 54.. Doc has asked to do a further diagnosis known as 2D scan.. So my question is ... Is my mother safe? Is it a life threatening problem? Plz need suggestions my dad got stent implanted in him due to heart attack recently i cant afford any other problem as of now...

Hi there. Bradycardia ie low heart rate could be due to multiple causes leading to reduced electrical impulses through heart. Aging, heart problems like heart attack, ischemic heart disease, hypothyroidism, electrolyte imbalance, some medications like beta blockers, all these can cause Bradycardia. Get her tsh done to rule out hypothyroidism and Get 2d echo done once to rule out heart abnormalities. Consult nearest cardiologist soon.
