Back pain for 3 years
Dear Dr. My wife fell from bike 3 years ago and since she is having intermittent back pain. Some days she has no pain at all and some days she can't even roll down in bed. X-ray showed straightening of spine and MRI was normal. Doctors are giving only pain medication and calcium tablets. What to do.

Treatments for chronic back pain can vary greatly depending on the type and source of the pain. If a treatable source of the pain is found, then the underlying process can be addressed. When the underlying cause is either not specifically identifiable or not amenable to treatment, then the symptoms are treated. The goals of the treatment are to reduce pain, improve quality of life and increase function...so your doctor is just doing the same as there is no other detectable cause apart from injury and osteoporosis..
