My mother in law finds problem in getting up and sitting. I was wondering if she should go for some physiotherapy and exercises?

There is never a harm in going for physio. But need to see why she is in this condition. What is her age. Get her xrays of knees and spine done.

Take her to a physiotherapist to find out the exact cause of the problem whether the back,hip or knee which is causing her difficulties in her daily activities.Physiotherapy coupled with exercises will help her get back to normal.
