Hi does atherosclerosis develop slowly or fast? Is it seen in individuals under 40? How does it present? Does it grow slowly over say 20-30 years etc? Also at what age does the process begin? I'm a medical student so any help Would be great thanks

Atherosclerosis starts developing at the age of 20 . It all depends on metabolism of cholesterol regulated by genetics. For early development it is either hypercholestromia,tobacco in any form,diabetes,obesity,genetics and lifestyle are responsible. It is a long process but can be aggravated by above factors.
