Are styes on the eye contagious

I am a 24-year-old guy and I have a stye on my eye. I didn’t go to work today because I feel it may pass on to others near me. My eye has swollen and it has turned red. I hope it is not turning out to be conjunctivitis. Are styes on the eye contagious? Must I be cautious while being around people when I have this?
