In psychological problems you sometimes need both medication and therapy. But if depression is severe and of long duration you will need medications first. So first go to a psychiatrist. Therapy works better if one is treated with medications first.

You can go in any order of preference. Loosely speaking, psychiatrist does assessment and gives medicine. Psychologist and psychotherapists conduct tests, give intervention treatment which could be talking therapies.

I understand your concern. You seem to be suffering from depression, including memory problems and feeling anxious. Information regarding your sleep, hunger, energy levels and concentration at whatever you do would also be helpful to decide the severity of your condition. However it is easily manageable with appropriate treatment. Some counselling sessions / psychotherapy along with medical help might be useful for you, all of which a psychiatrist will provide. My clinic is at OMR chennai. I speak tamil as well. I would also be more than happy to help you with that if you are looking for online assistance. Discussions will be held confidential. You can directly consult with me through Practo as needed. Online chat consultation is also available.

Loss of interest, decreased concentration and attention, feeling low and disturbed sleep or appetite are some of the signs of depression. Consult a psychiatrist who will assess you in detail. If you are feeling suicidal or hopeless, seek professional help immediately. A Psychiatrist can prescribe medication as well as provide counseling, whereas psychologists and psychotherapists can provide counseling.
