Which infection causes low stomach acid? What is the treatment for low stomach acid? I was getting excess amount of acid reflux and i got antral gastritis. Which means i got high stomach acid. Doctor has given ppi. Gastritis has reduced. But I am still  getting acid reflux. Now, the food is not digesting. Which means I got low stomach acid. How is this shift happening?  Doctor is only giving ppi+prokinetics. How to fix this?

long term PPI can cause low stomach acid leading to poor digestion. Taper PPI gradually under doctor guidance. A consultation can review and suggest alternatives. Feel free to book one.

This is actually a common and underrecognized problem — long-term PPI use for gastritis reduces stomach acid significantly, which can itself cause bloating, food not digesting, and paradoxical reflux because the lower esophageal sphincter doesn't tighten properly without adequate acid. H. pylori infection is the most common cause of antral gastritis and can disrupt stomach acid regulation — if you haven't been tested and treated for H. pylori, that's a critical missing step. PPI alone won't resolve H. pylori-driven gastritis.
Next Steps
Ask your doctor to test for H. pylori (stool antigen or breath test) if not already done. Once gastritis is confirmed resolved, PPIs should be gradually tapered (not stopped abruptly) rather than continued long-term. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.
