Leukocyte esterase test being positive means that you have some infection in the urine. It calls for further more specific tests for urine which pin point the type of infection. Urine culture will tell the type of bacteria and also the antibiotics which will be effective in your case. The risk of infection is abortion,  premature labour, and long term infection of the kidneys. It could be a cause for itching in the vagina because there can be contamination of the vagina with urine.
