If tooth pains while byting food and too much sensitivity to sweet ..is the filling is necessary or root canal.there is no swelling or pain in night.tooth only pains while byting food.tooth already has fillings from 3 or 4 years.how to decide whether root canal is required or fillings

it needs x ray diagnosis , if caries is not deep then only filling is sufficient but if the caries has involved blood supply of tooth the tooth then rct may be required . or if there is just  food logment the filling have to be replaced

Consult a dentist for xray of that tooth. but as per your symptoms its most likely will go for RCT only.
