Tooth extraction

My spouse has been prescribed RCT on a tooth in the upper jaw due to decay and breakage. However, he wants to go for extraction of the tooth, his dentist has also agreed to it. What should I expect after the extraction and how long will it take to heal? What all should I keep in mind for aftercare?

If your spouse has no medical problems, in 4 weeks the healing will be complete. Consult me for an implant for her tooth as it is a front one and will look bad if left empty.

The goal is to keep the blood clot in the extracted area to avoid dry socket... It is always preferred to save natural tooth so would be best to undergo root canal treatment followed by crown. In case you prefer removal of tooth then the healing generally takes around 2 to 3 weeks (in absence of any other medical conditions) Certain things that have to be taken care of for any dental extraction would be - she needs to have eaten well before the procedure and should avoid extraction procedure on fasting or empty stomach - after extraction, the cotton should be in place for 1 hour and all the saliva has to be swallowed and avoid spitting or collecting it in the mouth - no eating or drinking for 1 hour - avoid hot or hard food for that day - avoid sleeping on the side of tooth extracted - apply ice pack from outside

Your spouse should go for rct, because natural tooth saving is good. If go for extraction, after that prosthesis can be given, bridge or implant. Whatever your spouse wants.  After extraction complete healing of wound takes 3to4 weeks.
